Saturday April 26th – 1PM-1:45PM – Second floor

So, you want to make a cosplay but don’t know where to start? In this panel Tiffany Gordon Cosplay will go over how she plans out her cosplay builds to help you with starting your very own one! Going over how to choose a character, research, getting materials and much more.

Tiffany is the owner of Tiffany Gordon Cosplay LLC, which is a company that focuses on costume and prop fabrication as well as education on YouTube through her live crafting streams and tutorials, helping to teach others how to create their own cosplays from scratch. She is also an Airforce spouse who originally is from Texas but now resides in Nebraska. She first started building cosplays in 2008, bringing to life her favorite characters from anime and games using a wide variety of materials such as leather, EVA foam, sewing, 3d modeling/printing, worbla and much more! She is most known for her Auriel cosplay from Diablo III, Atlantic Mercy cosplay from Overwatch and her BlizzCon 2023 Best in Show cosplay of Lilith from Diablo IV. Eligibility

Any con attendee may enter as long as they have a valid pass and have provided all the necessary information to compete. Individuals below the age of 16 will need parents’/guardians’ consent to compete.

Signup

Signup will be primarily through the online registration platform. Cosplay Alaska will have a booth at the convention but we cannot guarantee entry due to being capped at 30 contestants. Onsite Signup will begin when the convention doors open on-site and close at 3:00 pm to lock down our roster of contestants. As such we recommend everyone to register as earliest as possible.

Submission of entry Photos

Any contestant wishing to participate in the Compete division will need to upload the following pictures – front profile, side profile, and back photo of you in your cosplay. We ask that these be full images(head to toe) and not cropped or altered in any way. Contestants signing up on the day of will be evaluated for entry. Failure to upload images may result in being disqualified or unselected.

Selected Contestants

Due to space limitations, we will only be able to host 30 entries during this event. We require an email address as selected participants will be emailed their slot # for the competition and information for preparations. Any participants added on the day of the event will be given the open slot.

Entry types

Competitive – There will be 30 spots available. Slots will go quickly so we recommend applying as soon as you are ready. Once the slots have been filled we will no longer be accepting applicants and will update the submission platform with that information.

Show Off/Walk-Off -We will allow people to show off their cosplay during the judge’s intermission with a cosplay walk-off. This is a great way to participate if you just wish to show off your costume.

Show Preparation

We ask all contestants to come to the booth/stage area to start lining up by 4:20 pm. We will perform a role call. IF YOU’RE NOT THERE by 4:45 pm, WE WILL CONSIDER YOU ABSENT. Please plan accordingly to make sure you are on time. The Cosplay competition starts promptly at 5:00 pm

The Judging Process

The first point of judging will take place on stage during the show. We ask all contestants after exiting to return to the staging area for closer inspections. The judges will come to contestants to ask more questions as they see fit or to take a closer look at your fantastic work. During the judge’s intermission, the non-compete show-off will take place.

Judges will evaluate contestants based on these values:

  • Creativity – Here the judges will see if you use multiple mediums. If you were able to work with what you had well, and even how unique your choices were.
  • Execution – The judges will be looking for how accurately you crafted your costume, and how much attention to detail was given.
  • Stage Presence – The judges will be scoring points for those who embody their character and give off a great vibe on stage. Example: Instead of bolting on, then off quickly, we want you to personify your work and let everyone admire your craft.

Awards available

  • Best in Show – This award will be bestowed on whoever shows the best and most accurate build. From fabric to armor, to even electronics. We’re looking for a master of cosplay.
  • 2nd Runner-Up – Even the best cosplayer has a close competitor. This award goes to those who have shown clear capability to compete against the very best.
  • 3rd Runner Up – Third place goes to the cosplayer still in the works but showing great promise.
  • Best Sewing – This award will be for the best overall sewing technique and fabric skill.
  • Best Armor – The focus for this award goes to the best overall mixed medium hand-crafted builds.
