Need To Know
Sign-up Date/Time/Location:
This year we will be accepting online submissions prior to the convention date, with 30 slots available. If the slots do not fill, we will allow people day of con to fill remaining slots.
Late sign-ups will be on Saturday, the day of the convention, on a first-come, first-served basis for any leftover submission near the stage. They will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Entry types:
Competitive:
There will be 30 spots available. An online form must be completed before the convention dates to compete as a competitive contestant. If slots are not filled before the convention, some will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the event.
Show Off:
We will allow people to sign up to showcase their cosplay during the judges’ deliberation if they are not interested in competing.
When to get ready:
We ask all contestants to come to the booth to start lining up by 5:15 p.m. We will perform a roll call. If you’re not there by 5:15 p.m., we will consider you absent. Please plan accordingly to ensure you are on time. The Cosplay Cup starts at 5:45 p.m.
When you will be judged:
This year, we are introducing online submissions. If you apply online, you will be judged partially prior to the convention and may be asked follow-up questions after your walk-on.
As this is a new process, you may still apply on-site by scanning a QR code; however, you may also be asked follow-up questions after your walk-on.
As always, all participants will be judged on stage presentation during the walk-on, which may influence the judges’ final decisions.
Awards Available to win:
Best in Show:
This award will be bestowed upon whoever demonstrates the best and most accurate build, from fabric to armor, and even LEDs. We are looking for the master of cosplay.
2nd Runner Up:
Even the best cosplayer has a close competitor. This award goes to those who have demonstrated a clear ability to compete against the very best.
Young Star Award (15 years old and under):
This award goes to a rising cosplayer who demonstrates above-average craftsmanship at a young age. (This does not exclude anyone 15 and under from being able to win Best in Show or Runner Up.)
Audience Favorite:
This award will be given to the contestant who truly energized the crowd. Nothing is better than the screams of fans to remind you of your greatness.
Judge Honorable Mention:
Judges have a keen eye for someone on the right path to greatness. This award is designed to inspire passion and remind the recipient that their time is coming soon. With hard work and dedication, nothing can stop them.
What are you being scored on?
Creativity:
Here, the judges will assess whether you used multiple mediums, how well you worked with what you had, and the uniqueness of your choices.
Execution:
The judges will be looking for how accurately you crafted your costume and how much attention to detail was given.
Stage Presence:
The judges will score points for those who truly embody their character and exude a great vibe on stage. For example, instead of just standing on the X, try doing a gentle spin to show off a dress or strike a fun pose your character does.
